Relive the Exquisite Heartbreak at the Heaven Burns Red Exhibition: Tokyo Event Photo Report

"Heaven Burns Red" is a game co-developed by Wright Flyer Studios and Key. Launched in August 2024, the game is celebrating its 2.5-year anniversary with an exhibition: open now at animate Ikebukuro Flagship Store's 8th floor "Space Galleria" from September 27, 2024 (Fri) until October 28, 2024 (Mon)!

With wall graphics allowing you to experience scenes from the game, life-sized character figures, and precious items on display, such as the 31A uniforms, you can trace the steps Ruka Kayamori and her friends took in the main story from chapter one to chapter five part one.

Today we bring to you a photo report detailing what's inside the Heaven Burns Red Exhibition Tokyo event!

※Includes spoilers for the story of "Heaven Burns Red."

A Life-sized Nanamin in the Prologue area!

At the Heaven Burns Red Exhibition, fans can experience scenes from chapter one to chapter five part one, to the sound of the music that breathed life into the story.

Just past the entrance decorated with this exhibition's promo art, a life-sized figure of Nanami Nanase, AKA Nanamin, is there to greet you. Fans can get an up-close look at this familiar character, who appears on the game login screen.

The Squad 31A uniforms in the Chapter 1 area

In the Chapter 1 "World Conquest and a Broken Clock" area, the scene in which everyone says their Seraphim Code (weapon summoning chant) together is recreated using speech bubbles on a panel.

This area also includes a life-sized figure of Ruka holding her Seraphim in each hand. This incredible piece recreates every detail, down to the crystals at her feet.

Next, the uniforms worn by the characters in the game are also on display. No detail has been missed—the asymmetrical cloak of Tama Kunimi, AKA Otama-san; the horn-like transformed hood of Karen-chan (Karen Asakura's alternate personality); the electronic military pad; the texture on the shoes—if you have played the game, you're sure to get hype!

The real highlight of the Heaven Burns Red Exhibition is that you get to see all this while also listening to the music from the game. In the Chapter 1 area, "Before I Rise" by Jun Maeda and Nagi Yanagi conjures memories of the birth of Squad 31A.

31A's Seraphim and Memories of Aoi in the Chapter 2 area

In the concert area, Squad 31A's first live concert scene plays on a monitor, allowing you to enjoy the video of "Burn My Soul" by She is Legend.

After leaving the concert area, you'll find yourself in the Chapter 2 "Indelible Memories and Blue Dreams" area. Here, 31A's Seraphim (weapons) are on display. The sight of all the gorgeously-made Seraphim is nothing short of spectacular.

Also in the Chapter 2 area is an Erika Aoi panel and a display featuring her memorable scenes. They're all fascinating: Aoi and Squad 31A starting the band and practicing in the studio; talking with Aoi under the starry sky the night before the battle with the massive alien life form "Red Crimson," and more. As you reflect on memories both happy and sad, this exhibit will be sure to stir your emotions.

Captivating beauty...! Your chance to meet a life-sized Yuina-sempai!

The wall graphics in the Chapter 3 "Fingers Made and a Sea of Rice Ears" area recreate the scenery around the Aegis Tower. Follow the path to find a life-size figure of 30G commander Yuina Shirakawa! Her Seraphim, the glitter of light on the droplets, and the shockwaves make for a gorgeous display.

Past the life-sized figure is a panel of Satomi Kura from the same squad, plus Aegis Tower battle scene decorations, and even a panel of Navi near the ground. Navi's panel is beyond Kura's. What could its true nature be...

In this area, you can also watch a previsualization (simulation video created as concept work for the final version). This valuable content is exclusive to this exhibition.

The song playing in this area is "Sad Creature" by Jun Maeda and Nagi Yanagi. You can enjoy the music while browsing scenes of 30G deepening their bonds, Tsukishiro and Kura's goodbye scene, backlit SS-style art, and more.

An acoustic version of "Before I Rise" plays in the Chapter 4 Part 1 area

Chapter 4 Part 1 "Each Choice and a New Morning" depicted Squad 31A after they learned the cruel truth about Navi. At this exhibition, you can listen to the acoustic version of "Before I Rise" from the game while looking back on memories of Squad 31A.

When you enter the Chapter 4 Part 1 area, the wall before you is covered in memorable scenes. The right side depicts 31A reaffirming their friendships after learning the cruel truth. Meanwhile, the left side depicts the scene where Megumin leaves 31A. The contrast of fun bonding scenes next to art and text representing Megumin's lonely pain and anxiety is something to behold.

Explore Iroha Ishii's past in the Literary Fragment area

Displayed in the Literary Fragment "The Color of the Distant Sea" area is a panel of Iroha Ishii of Squad 31D. As if to surround her are scenes from the Literary Fragment.

The Literary Fragment is a story starring Iroha, who has also learned the same cruel truth as 31A, over the course of three days. The exhibit features selected scenes depicting Iroha's fun interactions with 31A, and moving past memories of her mother.

Otama-san and Megumin's friendship in Chapter 4 Part 2

One of the highlights of the Chapter 4 Part 2 "Freezing Breath and Exploding Emotions" area is the wall graphic recreating locations such as Nobi Desert, Narashino Dome, and Mt. Hiei. You can look back on memorable scenes Otama-san and Megumin shared at each place.

And, around the Chapter 4 Part 2 exit, you can listen to the in-game song "Shini Yuku Kisetsu no Kimi e" while tracing the long road Megumin and Otama-san took to reunite.

Ruka and her beloved mother star in Chapter 5 Part 1

In the area for Chapter 5 Part 1 "The Mechanism of the Soul and the Journey of Hundreds of Millions of Light Years," scenes between Ruka and her beloved mother are arranged like a photo album.

There are also scenes featuring the squad deepening their bonds. Enjoy the interactions between Yuki and Ruka, who are so close that the word "married" comes up among 31A, as well as bonding scenes between 31B's Ichigo Minase and Seika Higuchi, while listening to the in-game song "Bougainvillea."

Continue down the path and you will enter an area where staff comments are on display. There are messages to fans from character designer and main visual artist Yugen and the cast. If you want to know what they say, head to the event and check it out for yourself!
